Teaching

Adam Piotr Żukiewicz holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto and Masters of Music degree from Indiana University. He has also studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK, and was a music scholar at the United World College of the Adriatic in Duino, Italy. His mentors and teachers include Caio Pagano, James Parker, Marietta Orlov, Arnaldo Cohen, Jerome Lowenthal, Vanessa Latarche, Dario de Rosa, Alberto Miodini, and Paweł Zawadzki.

Dr. Żukiewicz teaching appointments have included Associate Professorship of Piano at the University of Northern Colorado, Sessional Lecturer of Piano at the University of Toronto, and Piano Faculty at St. Michael’s Choir School in Toronto. He was a Resident Faculty Pianist at the International Music Festival of the Adriatic in Duino (Italy), and teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Music Summer Piano Festival (Canada), Trieste International Piano Festival (Italy), Steinway Gallery Warsaw Summer Piano Masterclasses (Poland), and International Concerto Festival and Competition Academy (Czechia). Dr. Żukiewicz founded the Intercollegiate Piano Competition of the West, Beethoven in the Rockies Concert Series, and co-founded the Trieste International Piano Festival. He is a Certified Teacher of the Royal Conservatory of Music Curriculum and a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music College of Examiners. Dr. Żukiewicz frequently adjudicates piano competitions and festivals, and has been an adjudicator of the Steinway Piano Competition since 2018. Mr. Żukiewicz is a founding member of the Max Joseph Piano Trio and the Colorado Piano Trio.

Adam Piotr Żukiewicz is a Steinway Artist and a recipient of the Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award. His students studied in renowned institutions such as Royal College of Music (London, UK), Indiana University, and Eastman School of Music, and their successes include festival and competition awards in Canada, USA, Singapore, and Italy. Students of Mr. Żukiewicz also have successful performing and teaching careers, including academic positions in universities and conservatories in USA and China.

As a teacher, Dr. Żukiewicz believes in an individual approach to every student, always guided by the principle of preparing his students to become self-sufficient and well-rounded musicians. To this end, he focuses on establishing good musical and technical foundation as well as developing comprehensive understanding of musical styles, repertoire, and performance practice. He is a dedicated teacher who, in addition to instruction, enjoys creating and providing young musicians with performance and masterclass opportunities locally and internationally.

 

“I believe that understanding of the key aspects of a musical work such as structure, harmony, melodic language, and rhythm, leads to understanding of its expressive and emotional content. This process is based on an attentive study of the score. A precise study of the score, with paying close attention to composer’s text as well as articulation, fingering, phrase punctuation, expressive and dynamic markings, allows us to develop an understanding of the work, and lays a foundation for expressing ourselves through creation of a personal, convincing interpretation.”

• 2nd and 3rd Prize at the International Mozart Concerto Competition with Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, Zlín, Czechia, 2025

• 1st and 2nd Prize at the Southard Music Competition, Greeley, Colorado, 2026

• Silver and Bronze medals at the Classical Viennese Festival, part of the Seattle International Piano Festival, 2026

• 3rd Prize at the International Concerto Festival and Competition with Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, Zlín, Czechia, 2026
